February 20,'09: 3rd Day of Training

Somber atmosphere had greeted the warriors........

Back in full gear! Armored with the desire to teach!

Topic: Keyboard Shortcuts and Mouse Manipulation

Students were taught the basic keyboard shortcuts that were mostly used in application. From CTRL+A to CTRL+Z......(like A,B,C to Z children). Three members were missing, Welvie, Linlie and Analyn, they had some reasons i guess.

It's been quite a satisfying day for the group for an eagerness- to -learn-look were shown in the faces of the students. Warming brush of fulfillment enveloped the souls of the warriors.

Why warriors?
Because were in a battle!
Between Good and Bad?
Definitely!

Hmmmm...need concrete explanation?
Here it is!

We are warriors because:

we must defy the claws of Computer Illiteracy that somehow became soooo annoying! (Refer to "Installed with problems" post).
we must defend our honor!
we must defend our mission!

Installed with problems....

-Doomed Wallpaper-

Dismayed by the reaction and feedback from our dear teacher, we tried to unravel were did we go wrong....

February 13, 2009. Lino and Gerardo were off to TNHS for some reason. Not to be a guest of the JS Prom activity of the school but to accomplish the group mission:.......let's install!
They are opt to install Macromedia and Swishmax application for the proposed web-designing tutorial (but with a great dismay, we haven't done it!). Problems suddenly met their ways.

What could that be?

  • they were not able to install the said application for some reasons (unsupported by OS)
  • unwelcome atmosphere (?????)
  • feedback and reactions with regards to the previous training
  • a mistake for being a computer illiterate (not for the boys but to the concerned teacher involved)
The problem that greatly affected us were the last 3 ....why?

The boys had received a not-so-okay welcome from the property custodian for they (must be she) give a not-so-okay comments about the change of the settings (WALLPAPER!)
of the computer. She said that we must stop the training for we had done a DISASTROUS mistake by letting the students change the wallpaper of the desktop. She was so dismayed with this. But, we are more dismayed by her reaction toward this incident.

Changing the wallpaper won't affect the performance of the computer so that there's nothing to worry about dear teacher.

We had agreed to let the concern be heard by the proper authority (the principal of course).
We must clear this things out so that we can still have a happy days of training.
We must talked earnestly to the concerned teacher that there's no wrong in changing the setting!

An awakening:
It is a great loss to be a computer illiterate.

ICT ADVOCATE!

We are very happy to have this ICT program initiated by our Rural Dev. instructror: Mrs. Dyreen Suficiencia-Cabahug. Really! After being recognized by the college president himself, Dr. Rogelio T. Artajo, it happen when he seen our group ID. He was really happy that we were an ICT Advocate (based on what our ID says....) for ICT is for a good cause..

Hmmmm....we will give you the sight that the Dr had seen....below were our ICT ID....

Feb. 06, 2009: 2nd Day of Training

Activity: Getting the second feel of it!
Topic: Turning On/Off the Computer; Familiarizing the Desktop and Start Menu

Linlie and Sheena were assigned to discuss the said topic. Students were taught the basic on how to turn on and off the computer --standby, turn off, restart .
Giving them ideas on how these 3 stuffs works. They were then given the opportunity to have the feel of it. hehehe. After which, with the help of others, students were introduce to the environment of the desktop. The pictures they see on it (icons), the taskbar, system tray and the power of the properties to change the setting of the desktop. They were also given the time to browse the computer, opening any programs (except programs that concerned the computer as a whole and documents --to prevent the risk of deleting substantial information !).

Our Lesson: Be Courteous in All Times
Be Alert If There Someone Coming (Teachers!)
Observe Practices

Be Courteous in All Times---the property custodian were somewhat hurt and offended by our "rude" behavior, not giving her the recognition. But, we did! It just happen she never heard it much to our dismay and frustration!

Be Alert If There Someone Coming----Lesson 1 happened because of this Lesson 2
Next time, we will be wide-eyed to wait who's gonna come!

Observe Practices---don't wear your shoes if your inside the office/laboratory, be of a sort observant and polite for teachers also leave their shoes outside!

But, we were still given the joy after we saw tat the students were fully interested to our discussion and they were looking forward for more! :)

Jan. 30, '09: First Day of Training

Activity: Orientation and Getting to know You

Students were requested to introduce their selves with their expectations about the training.

Top 5 Expectations that been heard:

1. to have something in preparation for the college
2. to be up-to-date (afraid to be left behind! Of course!)
3. for employment purposes :o
4. to get rid of being a computer illiterate (boost your self esteem! Twinklers' writer honest
revelation; Twinklers-school publication)

5. to learn programming and website publishing

After the trainees, trainers must have their part too! Borjgroup (yours truly) and the Majestic group flaunt their selves (not with that "sexy" meaning!)

Topic: The Computer-knowing the lolos and lolas

Resource speakers Rhea S. Paglinawan and Lino B. Burgos introduced the brief history of the computer, the input/output devices, hardware/software and the common computer terminology that the computer world is using.

Enlightenment: "Data is a cow and Information is Argentina."

Quite amusing isn't it? but it's the simpliest way to differentiate data from information.
